Ultra Aluminum Hard Drive Cooler with Heatpipes

Ultra Products is a company that makes many different products from power supplies and cases to flash drives and system RAM. If you need a component for your PC, chances are Ultra has you covered.

Today I get to take a look at their latest hard drive cooler, the 3.5″ Aluminum Hard Drive Cooler with Heatpipes. While Ultra usually has unique product names, their line of hard drive coolers do not get such treatment. This hard drive cooler promises to keep your hard drive as cool as possible without generating any noise. Read on to find out just how well this little cooler works.

Package and Specifications

Let’s first take a tour of the package before moving inside.

The top of the box has a picture of the hard drive cooler and a list of features on a background that looks to be a view of the earth with the sun rising. Also listed is a sticker informing you the hard drive cooler comes with a 3 year limited warranty.

Reviews that I expect to see completed include the Samsung CLP-610ND, Samsung 2693HM, Tagan BZ 900W PSU, Silverstone KL02, Mitron Hard Drive selector, HIS HD3870X2, Cooling Jag Programmable Mini LED Flash Fan and Patriot Memory Viper Series DDR3 1866.

If all goes well, the following samples are expected to arrive in February: OCZ 2x2GB DDR2 PC2-8000 Platinum Edition Dual Channel , Samsung T22, Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution and Biostar TF-7150UF. I will of course make every attempt possible to bring in more samples and get some contests rolling again.

Ultra Products m998

When Ultra Products gave us the heads up that they wanted us to review the m998, I was sure it would be another great case. I’ve had many experiences with Ultra Products, from cases to power supplies to MP3 players, and they’ve all turned out to be great products. I still remember when I got my first X-Connect and it was a huge hit. Even after several years of use, I was able to sell it off second hand for a few bucks because people we’re still looking for one.

In Nivedh’s thorough review of the m998, the creativity Ultra Product designers must have when deciding to go with a slightly wider case to facilitate a PCI expansion bracket IO connector.

The lesser known and more creative feature is actually the integrated powerbar which outputs 4 molex and 2 six-pin PCI-E . While it is a hyped up feature and serves no actual purpose other than keeping your cables clean, it’s certainly a new and innovative feature. What I wonder is how the response would be if another company like Antec or Silverstone came up with it first.

In terms of build quality, the m998 excels with its brushed aluminum finish and steel reinforced structure. Ultra has really put a lot of thought into the case as seen by the removable motherboard tray which includes part of the back panel, allowing you to install your expansion cards without struggling inside a cramped case. The interior is spacious and should satisfy pretty much everyone. One of my favorite features is the ability to attach casters to the bottom; every heavy case should have these! – Overclockers Online

Incoming Review: Ultra Products m998

With one review out of the way, Nivedh has his next project already on the go. This month he’ll be working on the Ultra Products m998. I thought this was going to David but I was way off. Work has begun on this review and I’m excited to see how well it does. It’s not my favourite looking case, but the power bar built inside the chassis adds a nice touch.
